Two Months of Not Writing, Fixed With Buttons
Almost two months since the last post. Not because anything broke — the bot was running, the pipeline was fine. I just never wrote anything to put through it.
The setup was simple enough: send a message to the Discord bot at the end of the day, AI cleans it up, blog post is done. And it works, when you actually do it. The problem is that after a full day I don’t want to open a chat window and think about what I did. So I didn’t.
What changed
The bot doesn’t ask me to write anymore. It asks me questions instead.
At 23:00 it sends a prompt. I type check-in, and from there it’s all buttons — sleep quality, sleep duration, mood, energy, productivity, exercise, stress, how social the day was. There’s an optional text field at the end if I want to add something, but I can skip it. The whole thing takes two minutes.
From those answers the AI writes a short private journal entry for me, and gives me two or three small tasks to do the next day. Complete them and get XP, skip them and the streak pauses. The public part is just the dashboard — a heatmap of the last 90 days, trends, streaks. Numbers rather than writing.
Will it work
I don’t know yet. The idea is that I stopped because the effort wasn’t worth it at the end of the day, and this lowers that bar enough to actually be sustainable. Maybe it will, maybe I’ll find some new reason not to do it.
Either way the system is live, so we’ll see soon enough.
